Bertha Mae Mckenzie

Bertha Mae McKenzie was born on August 18, 1936 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the parents of Tinch and Bertha Hollimon, she was their youngest child. She was educated through the public school system and graduated from Dunbar Junior High School. She was blessed with her first child at an early age. Bertha was then married to Lenoard McKenzie in the presence of the Lord and they were blessed with seven children. She moved from Arkansas to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1968. She then found love with William P. Gilbert and they were blessed with three children.

Bertha truly loved the Lord and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
She was an active member of Womack Memorial CME Church in Indianapolis. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family. Bertha was a hard worker and for employment she was a school bus driver for 25 years. Her co-workers and friends knew her as a loving person and she really cared for children. Bertha was very helpful and a giver. She looked out for people in her neighborhood and was very generous with her time. She loved to cook and would feed whoever was in need.

Bertha departed this life on November 10, 2022 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by Lenoard McKenzie and William Gilbert, her parents, three of her sons (Ozell McKenzie, Lenoard McKenzie, Charles Hollimon), her two brothers, and her two sisters.

She is survived by her children: Bonnie (Jimmy) Moss, Christine McKenzie, Lonnie (Wanda) McKenzie, Ernestine McKenzie, Henry McKenzie, Deloris McKenzie, Angela (Jonathan) Barker, William McKenzie, 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. And a host of nieces and nephews.
