Alicia M. Smith

Alicia Michelle Smith, age 37, passed away peacefully at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana on

Monday June 25, 2018. From her arrival on November 16, 1980 to her departure she paid it
forward and would give her last to those in need.
Alicia was born in Dallas, Texas and welcomed into the loving home of Stanley and the Late
Rosie (Brown) Smith. The family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana where she attended Heritage
Christian School from preschool to first grade and Zion Hope Christian School from second to
sixth grade. She was identified early as a leader and enjoyed participating in school plays. While
at Zion Hope, Alicia would also learn to play the piano, develop her unique people skills and
spirit of service to others, all while forming lifelong friendships.
After finishing her education with Zion Hope Christian School she attended St. Lawrence
Catholic School from seventh to eighth grade and attended Lawrence North high school and
McKenzie Career Center for her high school years. Here she grew a passion for the culinary
arts and enjoyed competing in the state competitions. She worked with a popular local caterer
and with her cousin in his seafood restaurant, where she further refined her culinary skills. Alicia
held several positions in the public sector. She was employed as an Office Assistant at the
Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Purchasing Assistant for the City of Indianapolis,
Procurement Assistant for the Indianapolis Water Department, Executive Assistant to the
president for Level 5 Engineering, to name a few. She enjoyed working and thrived on solving
problems.
After a major illness, Alicia embarked on a career of assisting others, she became a patient care
assistant at several home health care companies.
Alicia's presence commanded attention. She was the life of the party and made everyone feel
welcome. Her infectious laugh and zest for life will be missed by all who know her. She was
always helping others at the expense of her own well-being. I'm sure there are people here
today that can attest to the genuineness of Alicia, she had a giving heart.
Alicia had a way with words. Her ability to convey her thoughts and feelings through writing was
special. Writing was cathartic for Alicia. She enjoyed writing in her journals and penned special
prayers for family and friends. In her writings, one could truly feel her emotion poured on to the
pages.
Open Letter to Stan C Smith from Alicia Smith:
Stan C Smith he is more than a friend,he's my father! I love him sooooo much. I thank God he
chose you to be my father!! This wonderful man has dedicated his life to me and the family. He
has shown me how to be a woman that commands respect from others. He has made sure
God, family, education, black history, respect, honesty and loyalty was instilled in my soul. He
has been there for me at all times through thick and thin. He's not just a great father, he's a
great community leader, deacon, boss, entrepreneur, golfer, friend and I'm glad that his love
spreads through everyone he meets. He has also shown me how a woman should be treated,
respected and loved, the way he loved and cared for my mother and the love he has for his wife
now. (That's why I'm single, I've not found anyone that can compare to my dad, brother,
grandfathers dedication and loyalty to their wives. And my dad just no settling for anybody to be
with his daughter. I'm actually scared to bring anything to my dad, God will bring the right one
one day) He has created a smart, strong, God fearing, loving, giving, loyal, money making,
down to earth daughter. Daddy I love you!! I thank you for putting up with me. And thank you for
always being there for me even when I wasn't right. I know it's been hard to see me sick for 3
years, but you have been here every step and I thank you. And seeing your faith for God and
me being a witness of how God has worked through your life and you never doubting God and
your commitment to God has kept me strong and I've been able to create my own relationship
with God and that's been amazing. Well I can go on and on about you… I'm going to stay strong
and beat this storm. I hope I've made you proud parent to say Alicia Smith is your daughter. I'm
not done yet I have sooo much more accomplishments that I'm about to conquer that will keep
you smiling. God is my first father and im so blessed and grateful to have you as my father as
well. Let me get off this thing, I'm dropping the Iphone Everyone if you have anyone that has
been influential in your life send them some love.
Left to honor Alicia and remember her love are her father, Stanley (Josephine) Smith Sr.; two
siblings; Stanley (Adelee) Smith Jr., Miriam (Marcus) Lane; four nieces; Sara Smith, Doris
Smith, Ava Lane and Zola Lane; two nephews; Logan Smith and Willis Smith; aunt; Patricia
Hicks (Lisette and Xavier) a host of cousins here in Indianapolis and across the country. Alicia
was preceded in her death by her mother Rosie Brown Smith.
