Aletha Herring

February 25, 1940 — September 7, 2008

Aletha Weir Herring was born February 25, 1940 to James and Addie Weir, who preceded her in death. Although Aletha loved her family and friends, she was tired and told the Lord she was ready to come home. Her prayers were answered on Sunday morning, September 7, 2008. Aletha was married to David Herring on December 22, 1986. When she married David, she accepted his children and treated them as her own. She was an Indianapolis native and had been a Sales and Leasing Consultant in the automotive industry for over thirty years, with a tenure of twenty-five years at Lockhart Cadillac. A pioneer in her own right, Aletha attributed her success to building a rapport with what she considered a bond much more than just a client, but a friend. She earned her customers trust and realized that to do repeat business; you had to do more than just sell a vehicle. Honesty is the key. Aletha was honored more than fourteen times by Lockhart Cadillac as Salesperson of the Year. Her customers referred and kept coming back because of her reputation which was based on honesty and integrity. Whether it was in her personal or professional life, Aletha deals straight she would not misrepresent anything. Some of her customers would even travel from out of state to purchase their cars from her. Anyone that knows Aletha knew that she had a compassion for giving and making people happy. She was good to her family, friends and those that she just met if they had a need, she would try her best to meet it. She enjoyed giving. Aletha accepted Christ at an early age at the First Church of Christ Holiness, U.S.A. and attended Sunday School, Holiness Young Peoples Union and served as the musician for many years. In fact, when ever she received a call, she would willingly go back to serve the church where she found Christ. She was an active member of Light of the World Christian Church and faithfully attended until her health failed her. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, David L. Herring, Jr.; sons, Harold L. Bell (Johnnye), Steven Herring Sr. (Nitasha) and Shawn Herring (April); daughters, Stephanie Herring-Johnson and Candy Watts; sisters, Altheria Madry (Wendell), Carole Toler (James), Nerissa Hunt (Charles), Diana E. Weir and Alvernia Johnson (Darryl); brothers, James C. Weir, Walter Weir and Richard Weir (Angie); sister-in-law, Yolanda Weir; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and friends. Her daughter, Denise E. Bell preceded her in death on September 5, 1994.
